VOLUNTEER/ INTERN JOB DESCRIPTIONS

Acta Non Verba: Youth Urban Farm Project’s Mission Statement:

THE Mission Of Acta Non Verba: Youth Urban Farm Projet is to combat the increasing disadvantage of young people of color, completing high school, and attending a post secondary school by empowering them to achieve their goals, we utilize urban farming to elevate the standard of living in the inner city and education and vocational training as a catalyst of community change. The further reward is savings accounts for each participant.

OVERALL JOB DESCRIPTION:

Vounteers and interns for Acta Non Verba: Youth Urban Farm Project will be instrumental in growing our programs through East Oakland and the world. Increasing our social media presence and gaining visibility for our projects successes and events will also be a responsibility of all interns both interns and volunteers must be dependable and able to pass a City of Oakland background check (to work with youth).

Social Media Intern

SOCIAL MEDIA INTERN:

We need a smart, hip and technologically savvy individual to:
– Put together a social media strategy
– Monitor and engage on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Linked In ect…
– Write and send out ANV’s monthly newsletter using Mail Chimp
– Communicate our Exciting News!
– Post and Update Kids Blog from our camps
– Update website as needed

Qualifications:
Must be familiar with social media outlets
Must be able to write clearly and concisely (with responsible use of hashtags)
Must be detail oriented AND a team player
**Ability and desire to work with youth grades K-12 highly desirable**

Eliezer Mendoza

GARDENER:

Make sure the soil youth are working with is of the right quality and in good condition.

Help youth select the right seeds for produce and flower which are ideal for Oakland’s growing conditions.

Trim and prune shrubs and trees, feed and water the plants and of course, remove weeds.

Know which fertilizer and pesticides to use in an organic garden in order to keep the plants healthy and provide nourishment and sustainability.

Lay down mulch, wood chips, moss and other soil moisturizers.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Enjoy physical and outdoor labor.

Ability and desire to work with youth ages 5-13 is HIGHLY desirable.

Carpenter

CARPENTER:

Building, finishing and repairing small garden and farm structures using wood, concrete and metal

Performing preventative maintenance on hand and electrical tools.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Skilled in carpentry
  • Ability to sketch efficiently and effectively
  • Creativity
  • Good coordination of hands and eyes
  • Ability and desire to work with youth ages 5-13 is HIGHLY desirable.

BENEFITS:

  • These are unpaid part-time internships and volunteer opportunities. *Small travel stipends may be available*
  • Estimated weekly hours are 5-8 hours per week (Unless you have more time!).
  • Schedule is flexible, but most days will require a minimum of 1/2 hour, to keep communications constant
  • Minimum 3 month requirement
