Tyler is ANV’s After School Program Coordinator. He joined the organization after years of working community service in the North Bay. His first summer with ANV gave him a chance to dust off the old neuroscience degree and teach some wonderful kids about the wacky world of science–specifically how to make bottle rockets and bizarrely colored slime. He quickly discovered how much he loved being around the creative and genuine energy of kids, and the work satisfied an inner need to be empathetic and available to others–especially towards children, who are just discovering how to handle emotions and the trials of interpersonal relationships. These skills are difficult to develop well into adulthood, and the mentorship of kids provides a chance for both sides of the relationship to teach the other. This experience is even more rewarding when coupled with the connection to the natural world that both science and gardening foster.
Outside of work, Tyler enjoys making music, reading science fiction, fantasy, and political theory, and playing video games. He strives to be a good listener, a thoughtful friend, and a helpful neighbor.
