Our Farms

Our Background
In 2011, Kelly Carlisle, an African-American Navy veteran and Master Gardener, started a ¼ acre farm at Tassafaronga Recreation Center in East Oakland. This act was inspired by her desire to address local health and socioeconomic disparities in an area that is known as a food desert.
Acta Non Verba: Youth Urban Farm Project (ANV) overcomes these barriers and empowers over 3,000 low-income youth and families annually in Oakland through urban farming. We offer access to farm beds, nutrition, cooking classes, community events, day camps for youth, and a CSA. Our CSA provides fresh produce to residents, accepting EBT payments, and we partner with Alameda County to install gardens in local schools.
